Milbrey Raney, Assistant Director

Milbrey E. Raney joined the Supreme Court of Texas Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth and Families as a Staff Attorney in April 2012, served as Training Director from 2018-2020, and currently serves as the Assistant Director. She is responsible for judicial training and education primarily through the Commission’s annual Child Welfare Judges Conference, the Texas Center for the Judiciary’s annual Family Justice Conference’s CIP Track, and the Commission’s biennial Child Protection Court Convening, along with coordinating judicial webcasts and scholarships. Additionally, Ms. Raney provides support to the attorney training and education efforts of the Training Committee and assists with the Commission’s Judicial and Attorney Resource Letters. Prior to her tenure at the Children’s Commission, she practiced family law, received court-appointments to represent children and parents in child protection cases, and served as Vice Chair of the Travis County Child Welfare Board. Ms. Raney earned a Juris Doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law in 1995 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Davidson College in 1989, where she received a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for a year of post-graduate study.
